1st National Youth Parliament
The Bahra College of Law, Patiala, organized its 1st National Youth Parliament, titled “Tarun Sabha,” on 16th September 2024. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students and faculty, marking a significant moment in the academic calendar of the college. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, President of the Punjab Mahila Congress, as the Chief Guest. Sardar Pritam Singh Johal, a retired PCS officer, was also in attendance as a special guest. Their presence and insightful speeches on contemporary legal and political issues added great value to the occasion. The primary theme of the debate competition at the Youth Parliament was the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a subject of national significance. The debate structure was well-organized, with two teams of three members each. Additionally, the event included 23 participants who sat in favor of the UCC and 24 participants who sat against it. A question-and-answer session followed the debate, allowing audience members to engage actively with the speakers. Furthermore, the event had a designated speaker, A newly elected Member of Punjab, press team consisting of 3 participants and a secretarial staff of 3 members, who ensured the smooth flow of proceedings. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Girish Chandra Rai, Principal of Bahra College of Law, Patiala. Ms. Baljinder Kaur, Vice Principal of BCL Patiala, and Ms. Rupali Sharma, Assistant Professor of Law, acted as the coordinators of the event. Their efforts, along with the support of faculty and students, ensured the success of the program. In recognition of the exceptional performances during the debate competition, the top three speakers were awarded for their research, and ability to engage with the audience. This served as a motivation for all the participants to continue exploring and refining their skills in debate and public speaking. Overall, The 1st National Youth Parliament, “Tarun Sabha,” proved to be a grand success.
